Efforts to reform campaign finance practices are not new, but most attempts to limit or check the negative impact of special interest groups, including corporate contributions, have floundered, despite considerable public demand for change. Both the U.S. Supreme Court, and in particular its infamous Citizens vs. United ruling, and Congress and the Wisconsin state legislature, through inaction, have stalled reforms. But numerous groups, including progressive elements of the Democratic Party, and allied groups, like the League of Women Voters, Common Cause, and WI United to Amend, are still aggressively working toward critical reform measures.
