We Are Inclusive, Progressive, Optimistic, and TimelessVoter Rights/Supression
This may shock you, but your voting rights are not guaranteed. There is nothing in the constitution that says you must be allowed to vote. In fact, who gets to vote is determined by each state. Ouch. In other words the politicians get to decide who votes for them. Voting rights and efforts to suppress voting have long been a staple of political dialog. Most recently, the debate has been on efforts, mostly from the right and the Republican party to make it harder for certain groups of people to vote. This has led to an avalanche of court cases seeking redress. Republicans have countered that abuses of the voting process, including fraud, have forced them to tighten voting policies. To date, there has been no substantiation of those charges, but that has not stopped many on the right from advancing numerous plans to suppress voting.
