Join us Saturday as Buress explains why he thinks he can defeat Ballweg in battle for 41st District Assembly seat

Join us this Sat­ur­day, May 5, for the May 5 meet­ing of the Green Lake Coun­ty Dems & Friends. Frank Buress who is run­ning for the 41st State Assem­bly seat now occu­pied by incum­bent Repub­li­can Joan Ball­weg, will be the main speak­er.

Buress, from West­field, has already estab­lished a Face­book page and he and a small army of vol­un­teers have been out gath­er­ing sig­na­tures for his reg­is­tra­tion fil­ing. The meet­ing, which is open to the pub­lic, starts at 10 a.m. at the Caesteck­er Pub­lic Library, 518 Hill Street, Green Lake. In addi­tion to mak­ing a short pre­sen­ta­tion, Buress, right in pho­to, will be avail­able to answer ques­tions.

Also on the agen­da for the meet­ing are updates on a dis­cus­sion on our new web­site and enhanced Face­book pages. The web­site is under­go­ing final test­ing but will be avail­able for view­ing on Sat­ur­day morn­ing. The Face­book page, set up by mem­ber Joe Kallas, can be viewed here.

Wednes­day evening, Buress was one of the can­di­dates fea­tured at a 4-coun­ty can­di­dates forum in Mon­tel­lo spon­sored by the Mar­quette Coun­ty Dems. Also speak­ing Wednes­day were Kel­da Roys and William Davis III.

A guber­na­to­r­i­al can­di­date, Roys, wants to rep­re­sent us on the bal­lot in Novem­ber, First, how­ev­er, she and about 15 oth­er Dems will square off in the August 14 Demo­c­ra­t­ic Par­ty Pri­ma­ry to earn the right to take on incum­bent Repub­li­can Gov­er­nor Scott Walk­er. Check out her web­site. Davis, from Madi­son, is seek­ing the Lieu­tenant Gov­er­nor chair now held by Repub­li­can Rebec­ca Kleefisch.

Wake Up Call at Ripon High School Wednesday, April 25

WAKE UP CALL is a FREE event open to the entire com­mu­ni­ty. It fea­tures a life-size exhib­it of a teen’s bed­room with more than 20 “red flags” that can sig­nal drug or alco­hol use. The bed­room iden­ti­fies spots where teens may hide drugs, house­hold items that can be used as drug para­pher­na­lia and ways teens try to cov­er up drug and alco­hol use. Our goal is to edu­cate par­ents and oth­er adults who are influ­en­tial in the lives of youth so they know what seem­ing­ly inno­cent items can actu­al­ly be an indi­ca­tion of sub­stance abuse. A Resource Fair will be avail­able from 6:00 — 6:30 pm with the Wake Up Call Tour pre­sent­ed from 6:30 — 8:00 pm. This pre­sen­ta­tion is for adults only (21 years of age and over). FREE CHILD CARE will be pro­vid­ed by the BRAVE pro­gram.

Frank Buress, who recent­ly announced that he is run­ning against Repub­li­can Joan Ball­weg for the Ballweg’s seat in the Wis­con­sin State Assem­bly, rep­re­sent­ing the 41st Dis­trict, will attend the 4-Coun­ty Can­di­date event in Green Lake, at Chris­tianos.

This represent’s a chance for Green Lake Coun­try mem­bers and friends to meet and greet the West­field can­di­date. Read Buress’ announce­ment of his can­di­da­cy.

Buress will be joined that the April 19 event by two oth­er Dems seek­ing elec­tion. Mahon Mitchell is one of a dozen or more can­di­dates who will meet in the Aug. 14 pri­ma­ry elec­tion. The win­ner of that race will gain the Demo­c­ra­t­ic Par­ty nom­i­na­tion to face incum­bent Repub­li­can Gov­er­nor Scott Walk­er in Novem­ber.

Also sched­uled to appear at the April 19 meet­ing is Dan Kohl, who is seek­ing to upend Repub­li­can Glenn Goth­man for the 6th Con­gres­sion­al Dis­trict seat in Wash­ing­ton.

U.S. Sen­a­tor Tam­my Bald­win is the fea­tured guest speak­er on Sat­ur­day, March 24, at the Win­neba­go Coun­ty Demo­c­ra­t­ic Par­ty 14th Annu­al Indi­go Dinner.The event is set for La Sure’s Hall, 312 S. Wash­burn St., Oshkosh

A social hour, start­ing at 4:30 p.m., fea­tures live jazz music. The din­ner starts at 6 p.m. and will include speak­ers, Sen. Bald­win and a 50/50 raf­fle.
