Michael Beardsley, left, Matt Boor, center, and Jessica King, right, participated in a virtual LWV of the Ripon Area candidate forum before empty chairs at the Ripon City Hall on July 1, 2020

While there were some differences on issues, for the most part the three Dems seeking to unseat incumbent Republican Rep. Glenn Grothm,an in the fall, demonstrated unity as they answered questions Wednesday night, July 1, during a League of Women Voters candidates forum in Ripon.

The three Dems–Michael Beardsley, Matt Boor, and Jessica King–fielded questions from LWV moderator Ellen Sorensen. The questions, in turn, came from the public and were screened by LWV volunteers.

In addition, the forum, the second this year hosted by the local LWV, evidenced the social distancing practices recommended by most public health officials. This meant the forum was held without a “live” audience. Instead, the forum was broadcast live on the city’s public access channel, 986, and then uploaded to the city’s YouTube channel.

You can view the YouTube channel here.

Both the Ripon Commonwealth Press and the newspapers published by the Berlin Journal, should have more detailed articles on the forum and the candidates in their publications next week,

Beardsley, Boor, and King face off against each other in the Aug. 11, partisan primary, with the winner going on to face Grothman in the Nov. 3 general election. The LWV will attempt to host another forum in late August or early September featuring the Dem primary winner and Rep. Grothman.
